DITA and LaTeX are both mark-up languages, but the “secret sauce” in DITA is that the mark-up “tags” structure content so that information can be used in many different combinations and transformed into numerous output formats. A frequent application for DITA based documents is technical documentation of products that need to be published across multiple platforms. It is very cool.
